Gemotions

The fluorescent lights in the office hummed, a monotonous drone that amplified his internal turmoil. He ran a hand over his face, feeling the stubble prickle against his skin. He couldn't sit still, drumming his fingers against the table. The interviewers had been friendly enough, but the feeling that this was a test, a contest, hung heavy in the air.

He hadn't been able to speak to Ben since the interview had ended. They'd been inseparable, but now… The shared hope, the shared dream had fractured. He wondered if Ben felt the same. He couldn't bring himself to check his phone.

He took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. He needed to walk, to move, to do something other than wait for a phone call that would determine his fate.
